Handmade Hydrosols
Hydrosols are known for their array of wonderful benefits such as skin nourishment, calming properties, and subtle aroma. They are a distinct product separate from essential oils but created in a similar way by steam distillation of plant material. These are gentle, water based products that can be used daily to soothe, refresh, and soften the skin.
The aromatic molecules in hydrosols are much less concentrated than essential oils making them safe for use with all skin types. Made in small batches with only the freshest local ingredients, these botanical extracts are distilled from plant materials that are sustainably gathered from certified-organic farms in the Coast Range of Oregon.

About Rebecca
The founder of RKP Botanicals, Rebecca has been infatuated with plants since her childhood. As an adult, she received her degree in horticulture and has worked professionally with plants for over two decades. With ongoing education in holistic health and nutrition, herbalism, and distillation, her favorite part of producing hydrosols is seeing these beneficial plants go from soil to finished product. While working for a holistic skincare company, Rebecca had the opportunity to see this process from start to finish and has since been enamored with each step. In 2017, she began the journey of distilling her own hydrosols and now offers these 100% natural, organic, and locally grown hydrosols for sale to the surrounding community.

The Process
Using only fresh filtered spring water, these hydrosols are distilled in alembic copper over a period of two to three hours at low temperatures. This process differs from conventional methods which typically use stainless steel and high temperatures for production. During the steam distillation of the plant material, the cell walls are broken down and the plant’s oil content is released. The steam and oil are then cooled, causing the steam to turn to water and the oil to reside on top. These two parts are separated into hydrosols and essential oils respectively.
In our distillation process, the hydrosols are the primary product created which differs from most hydrosols that are often the by-product of essential oil distillation. Even though hydrosols are made using the same process as essential oils, they’re much more sustainable as there is a significantly larger amount of hydrosol per distillation than there is of essential oil. They are similar in many ways to essential oils, but contain only a small fraction of essential oil (approximately 0.05 percent). They serve as lovely, natural alternatives for those with sensitive skin and are even safe to use with children and animals.
